In this video collage (footage: excerpts from a DVD of the movie The Matrix by the siblings Wachowski, 1999), Neo, the male hero from The Matrix, lies in the foreground, moving restlessly sometimes, as if having a bad dream. Behind him, a “projected” woman reports – with a foreign accent – on the content of the same film. From time to time, images of Neo‘s or Trinity‘s face fall through the screen, like sudden memories.A kind of therapeutical situation is constructed, in which one may reflect about what is real and what is imagination, and about the different realities of the conscious and the unconscious.

Until the mid-2000s, the resolution of video and television images was still very low. Even the technical quality of a DVD was far inferior to that of a feature film, and its original 16:9 aspect ratio was cropped to 4:3 on the DVD. However, Thyes appreciated the colourfulness and pixel structure of these old video formats and television interfaces, which lent the videos and still images a painterly quality.
